Not too long ago I worked with my long time friend, Pat Fries of Arrowhead Film and Video on an emotional documentary which he and his wife
Cheryl are producing. A labor of love for both of them, titled In The Shadow Of The Blade, is a feature-length documentary film capturing the human
stories of people affected by Vietnam through the conflict's most ubiquitous machine-the Huey helicopter. It is the story of journey-the journey of soldiers
through and after the war, the journey of their loved ones to cope with grief and loss, the journey of a restored Huey to fly to them once again.
We traveled throughout the country documenting various Landing Zones (LZ). Each Landing Zone captured a representative picture of the Huey
experience in Vietnam, from the aviators who flew Hueys to the men and women they carried. Beginning and ending with landings at memorials built
to remember the dead, the film pays tribute to Vietnam Veterans with an accurate, dignified story told in their own words. It premiered in Austin, TX.
on November 8th 2003 to amazing reviews. It will air nationally on the Military Channel February 10th 2005.
